I teach small business owners how to market on the internet every month. It is tough being a small business owner these days, especially if you are not keeping up with the technology that Google unceremoniously keeps throwing at you without notice. Every business owner has some competition except Google. Why? Are the engineers at Yahoo and Microsoft less competent than the Google engineers? It is bad enough that the small business owner wears many hats during the day and it seems quite unfair that they have to keep up with devious manipulating algorithms that may just make their website completely disappear from the searches. Is it the responsibility of billion dollar giants like Google to be educating the small business owners regarding these constant drastic changes in their algorithms? These algorithms are quietly released via a 'blog' on the Google website, that only the technologists read.

So, as a small business owner should you be connecting with strangers on LinkedIn in the hopes that these strangers may one day become your customers? Should you be secretly dancing when a stranger 'endorses' you for your skills set on LinkedIn? Isn’t it strange that your business magically starts appearing on the first page of Google when you interact more on Google Plus. What ? You did not even know that you were on Google Plus? Ahhh Yelp - every small business owner literally panics at the thought of Yelp. Receiving a bad review from a client from hell can mean bottles of antacids for the business owner that can of course be reduced by paying Yelp $300 per month for an 'ad'.

It is survival of the fittest. The business owner who is well educated in technology is going to be the winner. In the meantime, I will be living in this dream world of small business owners being wined and dined in the Google Yachts for funding their toys. We as small business owners need to help Yahoo and Bing be as successful as Google also. Join me in being socially responsible.
